Workplace First Aid

Training includes:

  • Providing a first aid response including life support, contextualised to current industry practices and technologies within an ESI environment
  • The use of basic life support measures to manage casualties until the arrival of medical assistance
  • Processes for reporting of accidents and/or incidents to authorised personnel in accordance with established procedures

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements however sound English language, literacy and numeracy skills are required.

Course Delivery and Duration

This short course involves 3 hours of training and includes a blend of theoretical and practical skill based elements.

To optimise the training and assessment effort, this unit may be assessed concurrently with HLTAID001 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Unit Objectives

UETTDRRF10 covers the following topics:

  • Provision of emergency first aid relevant to an ESI Environment
  • Identification of hazards and minimisation of risks
  • Assessment and stabilization of the casualty
  • Provision of first aid for conditions including Bleeding, Burns, Electrocution, Bites, Stings and Envenomation
  • Requesting Ambulance Support and casualty handover – communication of details to emergency services personnel
  • Patient Reassurance / Communications
  • Reporting details of accident /incident

To successfully complete this short course, participants need to demonstrate:

  • Ability to perform a first aid in line with the rescue procedures relevant to an ESI environment
  • Ability to implement and follow Occupational Health and Safety workplace procedures and practices including the use of risk control measures
  • Knowledge of State/Territory regulations, First Aid codes of practice and workplace procedures
  • An understanding of legal and workplace considerations relevant to the qualification
  • An understanding of the critical safety nature of working with electricity, electrical equipment, gas and other hazardous substance/materials

An understanding of anatomy and physiology relevant to the qualification

Assessment requirements

To be assessed as Competent the participant is required to:

  • Participate in activities and scenarios as directed by the trainer
  • Successfully complete a series of multiple choice questions
  • Demonstrate the application of practical skills required for this unit of competency outcome.

Statement of Attainment

On successful completion, participants will be issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for UETTDRRF10 – Provide first aid in an ESI environment.

For some Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses, this unit may contribute towards nationally recognised qualifications. The training may also provide an opportunity for professional development by increasing skills, knowledge and application in the work or home environment.

Recertification

The law requires employers to provide a safe working environment and adequate facilities for the welfare of their employees. This means that appropriate First Aid measures need to be in place, including First Aid kits and suitably trained First Aid Officers who hold current qualifications.

In accordance with the National Refresher Training Recognition Protocol for the Electricity Supply Industry, this unit is identified as Refresher Training and is only available for use by the ESI industry to meet industry protocols and regulatory requirements.

Under the protocol and the applicable State or Territory legislative and regulatory requirements, Electricity Supply Industry employees are required to maintain currency in this unit for authorisation /approval to work on ESI Networks. Re-certification is recommended on an annual basis.
