Course in Perform CPR

The purpose of the course in Apply CPR is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to administer Expired Air Resuscitation and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation following a life-threatening incident.

Duration:

The course in Apply CPR is generally conducted over a 3 hour period. However this may vary depending on group size, previous experience and workplace requirements.

Entry requirements:

Nil, however it is recommended that participants have literacy and numeracy competencies equivalent to National Reporting System (NRS) Level 2:

comprehending and/or producing structurally simple and cohesive texts which are typically short and explicit
identifying, using, checking on and communicating straightforward mathematical procedures and representation in familiar and predictable contexts with access to structured support required.

Element of Competency/Performance Criteria:

Element of competency Performance criteria
Elements define the essential outcomes of a unit of competency. The Performance Criteria specify the level of performance required to demonstrate achievement of the Element. Terms in italics are elaborated in the Range Statement.
1. Respond to signs of an unconscious casualty 1.1 Identify hazards to health and safety of self and others
1.2 Minimise immediate risk to health and safety of self, casualty and others by isolating any hazard(s)
1.3 Approach the casualty in a calm, culturally aware, sensitive and respectful manner
1.4 Assess vital signs of casualty
1.5 Recognise the need for CPR
2. Perform CPR 2.1 Perform CPR in line with ARC Guidelines
2.2 Seek assistance from others and/or ambulance support as appropriate
3. Communicate details of the incident 3.1 Request ambulance support or appropriate medical assistance and/or ambulance support using available means of communication
3.2 Accurately convey details of casualty's condition and CPR procedures performed to emergency services/relieving personnel
3.3 Calmly provide information to reassure casualty, adopting a communication style to match the casualty's level of consciousness
3.4 Provide reports, where applicable, in a timely manner, presenting all relevant facts relating to performing CPR according to established procedures

Venues:

This program can be conducted at your location of business or at a venue that is suitable and convenient to the participants. First Intervention is able to deliver this course at a time to suit your needs.

Class Size: Normally a minimum of 8 participants is required and a maximum of 20 participants is allowed.
Assessment:

All assessments conducted by First Intervention will be consistent with the requirements of Standard 8.1 of the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) Standards for Registered Training Organisations.

All assessment tools and methods will be valid, reliable, fair and flexible.

Participants will be informed of the context and purpose of the assessment and the assessment process.

Feedback will be provided to participants about the outcomes of the assessment process and guidance given on future options.

Assessment strategies are designed to:
cover a range of skills and knowledge required to demonstrate achievement of the course aim
collect evidence on a number of occasions and in a variety of contexts and situations
be appropriate to the knowledge, skills, methods of delivery and needs/characteristics of the learners
assist assessors to interpret evidence consistently
recognise prior learning
be equitable to all groups of learners.

Where possible, an integrated approach to assessment is recommended.

Certificates: On successful completion of this course participants are awarded the Statement of Attainment HLTCPR201A Course in Perform CPR. This Statement of Attainment is valid for a period of 12 months from the date of issue.
Next Step: Participants who have successfully completed this course are encouraged to either undertake the Course in Apply First Aid or Provide Basic Emergency Life Support.
