In accordance with industry protocols, you will provide appropriate patient assessment and be able to follow procedures for the safe removal of patients for transport through either a pre-arranged or booked transport service.

Once qualified, opportunities exist within State/Territory Ambulance authorities, non-emergency transport companies and private organisations who provide emergency and non-emergency patient care and transport services.

We deliver critical theoretical knowledge components, supported by comprehensive competency based practical skills and assessments. Our course design is continually reviewed to meet the changing needs of the industry and incorporate the latest developments in pre-hospital care, including alignment to current Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines and common ambulance practices.

Blended training methods provide a more streamlined approach for the active learner and also compliment those who are transitioning from one profession to another.

Entry Requirements

To qualify for admission into the course, you will be required to demonstrate to the satisfaction of First Intervention that you:

  • Have adequate Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy skills to progress through the course;
  • Have adequate computer and digital literacy skills;
  • Hold a current and unrestricted Australian State or Territory FULL Driver’s License;
  • Have no known physical restrictions that will limit your ability to complete the course;
  • Have or have access to the required technology (computer/laptop etc) to undertake this course

 

All applicants need to complete a Pre-Training interview (PTR) to discuss if the course is the most suitable and appropriate training option for them as part of their application to enroll in this program.

Course Delivery and Duration

The duration of this qualification is 28 weeks, during which students’ are required to attend:

  • Live online classes with their trainer/assessor using ZOOM
  • Face to face Skill Assessment Sessions at our Tullamarine training venue for the training and assessment of the practical skills and knowledge required in this qualification
  • Course work: students will also complete a series of online quizzes, assignments and in-class activities during the course.

Qualification

On successful completion of this course a student is awarded the HLT31120 – Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport which is a nationally recognised qualification.

Students who do not complete all units may be eligible for a Statement of Attainment for any units they have been fully assessed in as competent.

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS – on 23 December 2020, the National Regulator ASQA superseded the HLT31115 qualification nationally and an updated version was released, titled HLT31120 Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport.

Our HLT3115 Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport qualification is now officially in a teach out period of 12 months and will be officially superseded on Thursday 23 December 2021 by HLT31120.

Students that are currently enrolled in our HLT31115 Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport and who have not completed their studies by 30/11/2021 be will transferred over to the new course code/qualification HLT31120.

Pathways

This course can provide a pathway and connections between courses, starting at certificate level right through to undergraduate and/or postgraduate study.

 

The Units of Competency achieved in this qualification may provide credit towards a range of other qualifications at Certificate III level and above, with many students continuing with their Patient Transport/Pre-Hospital Care knowledge and training and moving into more advanced areas of study as a natural progression.

 

After completing your Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport, you can go on to study further qualifications such as the HLT41120 Certificate IV in Health Care or HLT51020 Diploma of Emergency Health Care.

 

Some students then elect to go even further and go on to study a Degree in Paramedic Science or Paramedic Practice at university.
